The Taal Lake is a freshwater crater lake on the island of Luzon in the Philippine province of Batangas north of the provincial capital of Batangas City. The lake was formed following the creation of a caldera over several large volcanic eruptions that occurred between 500,000 and 100,000 years ago.

With an estimated area of ‚Äč‚Äčabout 23,500 hectares, it is the third largest lake in the Philippines. In the center of the lake it is one of the many active volcanoes in the country, the Taal volcano.
